The Samsung Galaxy A series has always been the go to for those who want features and affordability and the upcoming Samsung Galaxy A36 5G will continue that trend — but with a design twist. Thanks to leaked renders from OnLeaks we now have a clear look at what this mid rangers will bring.

Design: A New Direction

One of the most refreshing changes in the Samsung Galaxy A36 5G is the design. Samsung has always kept separate camera rings for its A series devices but the Galaxy A36 breaks that trend. The phone has a pill shaped, vertically aligned camera island which is reminiscent of the Galaxy Note 10. This is a new direction and shows Samsung is willing to take some risks with its mid rangers.

The rest of the design is evolution not revolution. The 6.64 inch display (slightly bigger than the A35’s 6.60 inch) means the phone is slightly taller at 162.6mm compared to 161.7mm of the predecessor. It’s thinner at 7.4mm (down from 8.2mm) but the camera bump makes it 9.6mm thick. This slim profile makes it look and feel sleeker and more comfortable to hold despite the larger display.

Same Display with Minor Changes

At the front Samsung hasn’t changed much. The flat display with a centered punch hole camera remains, it’s the same old look for Samsung fans. The bezels look slightly asymmetrical in the renders but overall it’s the same design language.

One thing that seems to be staying is the in display fingerprint sensor. With no side mounted sensor, it’s safe to assume the A36 will follow the same path as the A35 and embed this feature under the display.

Performance: What’s Inside?

While the design is leaked, the internal specs of the Samsung Galaxy A36 5G are not fully revealed yet. But Geekbench listings suggest it could have either the Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 or the Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 chipset. If that’s the case, it would be another change of chip supplier for the A series. The A34 had the Dimensity 1080 and the A35 had the Exynos 1380.

Switching to Qualcomm for the A36 would be an interesting move, potentially enhancing the device’s performance and battery efficiency.

Battery and Release Date: What We Know So Far

No word on battery capacity for the Samsung Galaxy A36 5G yet. Given the phone’s thinner body, not sure if that will impact battery life. But Samsung has managed to fit a decent battery into its A-series phones so we can expect the same here.

As for the release, we’re looking at mid-March 2024 if history repeats itself. The A35 was launched alongside the A55 in March 2023 and we can expect the same for the A36 and A56.

Conclusion: A Good One

The Samsung Galaxy A36 5G looks like a good update to the Galaxy A-series, with a new design that will surely attract mid-range buyers. Much of the internal specs are still unknown but the design alone is a good sign that Samsung is serious about refreshing its mid-range offerings.
