Xiaomi is about to do it again with the upcoming Xiaomi 15 Ultra which is expected to drop in early 2024. After the success of the Xiaomi 14 Ultra, this new one is expected to continue the trend of marrying the latest technology with premium design. Xiaomi has kept most of the details under wraps but recent leaks have given us a glimpse of what to expect.
Display and Design: Refining Excellence
The Xiaomi 15 Ultra is expected to further refine the design language of the Xiaomi 14 Ultra with subtle yet significant changes. At the top is a 6.73-inch curved OLED display with the same 1440 x 3200-pixel resolution and 120Hz refresh rate. This means vivid visuals, smooth scrolling and a better multimedia experience.

The display specs seem to be the same as the previous one but Xiaomi is known to make tiny improvements to its panels. Expect better brightness, more accurate colors and maybe display power efficiency improvements.
A Camera Setup Built for Photography Enthusiasts
Xiaomi’s flagships have always been about camera innovations and the 15 Ultra is no exception. The main star is expected to be a 1-inch main camera sensor with f/1.63 aperture for better low light shots. While earlier rumors suggested variable aperture, there’s no confirmation yet.
The main camera will be supported by two telephoto lenses:
- 50 MP 70mm telephoto lens with 2.9x optical zoom.
- 200 MP 100mm periscope telephoto lens with 4.3x magnification (down from 5x of the previous one).
This revised telephoto setup might mean Xiaomi is balancing versatility and design, offering great zoom without compromising the phone’s looks and usability. Some might see this as a step back but Xiaomi has its reasons for this, maybe image processing or lens quality improvements.
Battery: Capacity and Design
Battery is a key factor in a smartphone’s success and Xiaomi is taking a measured approach with the 15 Ultra. Reports say the battery capacity will be between 5,450mAh to 5,800mAh which is slightly short of the 6,000mAh of its competitors.
The reason might be Xiaomi’s pursuit of a slim and manageable design. The previous one, the Xiaomi 14 Ultra weighed around 220g and 9.2mm thick. It’s likely the 15 Ultra will have the same slim profile so it will be ergonomic and pocketable.
Also, Xiaomi will likely have advanced power management and fast charging technology so users can charge their phones quickly. While the exact wattage is unknown, Xiaomi’s previous phones had 120W wired and 50W wireless charging and the 15 Ultra is expected to be at least the same or more.
Performance: Snapdragon’s Latest and Greatest
The Xiaomi 15 Ultra will be powered by the new Snapdragon 8 Elite chip, Qualcomm’s flagship processor which is super fast. Built on the latest tech, this chip will be great for gaming, multitasking and heavy camera processing.
With AI-enabled, the Snapdragon 8 Elite will optimize tasks like image stabilization, scene recognition and even battery life. With MIUI, you’ll have a smooth and lag-free experience everywhere.
Xiaomi’s Approach: Innovation meets Practicality
Some of the Xiaomi 15 Ultra’s specs like slightly reduced zoom and smaller battery might raise questions, but these are probably because Xiaomi wants a balanced flagship. By delivering great performance, sleek design and a solid camera setup, Xiaomi is catering to power users and the mass market.
The competition in flagship is getting fiercer than ever with Samsung, Apple and OnePlus pushing the boundaries. Xiaomi’s ability to innovate and still be affordable might make the 15 Ultra a winner in its class.
Conclusion: A Good One
From what we’ve seen so far, the Xiaomi 15 Ultra is shaping up to be a great successor to the 14 Ultra. Its great display, versatile camera and fast performance will appeal to many. Some specs might be incremental but Xiaomi’s track record shows the 15 Ultra will be a refined and premium experience.
Wait for the official launch (likely in January or February) but one thing is for sure, the Xiaomi 15 Ultra is going to make a splash in the smartphone world. Watch out for this flagship as it takes center stage and sets new standards for what a modern smartphone can do.
